Bio

Beatriz Farola Barata received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from the NOVA University of Lisbon, Portugal in 2016. Subsequently, she moved to the University of Twente, The Netherlands, where she obtained a Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering in 2019.  During her Master's, in 2017, she was a visiting researcher at the Robarts Research Institute in London (ON), Canada. There, she worked under the supervision of Dr. Aaron Fenster on the development and validation of a 3D ultrasound system for evaluating the severity of joint bleeds in pre-adult patients. Next, Beatriz decided to focus her research on surgical robotics, and she wrote her Master’s thesis on motion tracking and on trajectory planning and closed-loop control of a robotic arm manipulator in a magnetic actuation system. This work was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sarthak Misra and PhD researcher Christoff Heunis at the Surgical Robotics Laboratory from the University of Twente. Beatriz is an enthusiast about the potential of surgical robotics!

Beatriz is currently a PhD researcher at the KU Leuven Robot-Assisted Surgery group (Belgium) and the ALTAIR Robotics Laboratory of the University of Verona (Italy). Her research involves 4D cardiovascular vessel modelling and reconstruction during catheter navigation, and she is conducting the study as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) in the ATLAS project, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network.
