Beatriz received her Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering Sciences from the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa (Lisbon, Portugal). Immediately after, she pursued her Master of Science (MSc) in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Twente (Enschede, The Netherlands) in the track of neural and motor systems. During her master's, she was a visiting researcher at Robarts Research Institute in London (ON), Canada. She worked under the supervision of dr. Aaron Fenster in the development and validation of a 3D ultrasound system for evaluating the severity of joint bleeds in pre-adult patients. After, she decided to follow the path of surgical robotics and she wrote her master thesis on motion tracking, trajectory planning and closed-loop control of a robotic arm manipulator in a magnetic actuation system at the Surgical Robotics Laboratory at the University of Twente. She worked under the supervision of prof. dr. Sarthak Misra and ir. Christoff Heunis. Beatriz is an enthusiast about the potential of surgical robotics!

Beatriz is currently a PhD researcher at both the Robot-Assisted Surgery group at KU Leuven (Belgium) and the ALTAIR Robotics Laboratory at the University of Verona (Italy). Her joint doctoral degree represents her work as an Early Stage Researcher (ESR) for the ATLAS project, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network.
